Bio: Kristen Golomb is the Coordinator of Science Programming for Propel Schools, a growing consortium of eight public, urban, charter schools in the Pittsburgh area. After years spent as an outstanding middle school science teacher, she has put her skills to use as an exemplary Science Coach for Propel science teachers for K-12 grades. Kristen takes the lead in lesson design, building innovative lesson plans, selecting and ordering appropriate materials, and guiding all facets of science instruction to put Propel at the forefront of quality science education. Recognizing the power of a group of committed partners, she has created and sustained a network of local partners dedicated to improving the environment and ecology and supporting the work in each of the Propel schools.
Below are two examples of Propel Science collaborations, partnerships, and initiatives that Kristen has been a critical part of:
Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy 2011-2012 Mission Ground Truth: Students are exposed to basic ecological concepts, real-life local examples, career opportunities, and specific skills for environmental restoration. Each session includes observation of the natural world, scientific journaling, and hands-on stewardship.
Direct Energy/Alliance to Save Energy 2010-2011 SEAT Program - Students learned about energy usage in the schools and ways to conserve energy.
